4.8 Million International Tourists Arrive via I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport by August 2025, Growing by 12 Percent

Mangupura, September 30, 2025 – I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport – Bali has once again recorded positive performance in international tourist arrivals. From January to August 2025, a total of 4,806,333 foreign tourists arrived in Bali by air. This figure represents a 12.4% increase compared to the same period in 2024, which recorded 4,277,206 international visitors.

During the first eight months, the highest monthly arrivals were recorded in July 2025, with 718,991 passengers, averaging 23,000 per day. August 2025 also showed strong performance, reaching 703,030 passengers. The high volume of arrivals is common from June to September, coinciding with the summer holiday season.

By nationality, Australia remained the largest contributor, with 1,094,194 arrivals, growing by 6.3 percent. India followed with 395,101 arrivals, up by 5.5 percent. China ranked third with 393,825 arrivals, showing a significant 20.6 percent increase. Meanwhile, South Korea (246,448 arrivals) and the United Kingdom (226,354 arrivals) completed the top five, also recording solid growth of 27.8 percent and 11.6 percent, respectively.

In line with the dominance of the Australian market, three of the top five busiest international routes were to and from Australian cities. From January to August 2025, the busiest international routes were recorded as follows:

  1. Singapore – 8,543 aircraft movements
     

  2. Kuala Lumpur – 6,940 aircraft movements
     

  3. Perth – 4,892 aircraft movements
     

  4. Melbourne – 4,031 aircraft movements
     

  5. Sydney – 2,823 aircraft movements
     

Ahmad Syaugi Shahab, General Manager of I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport, stated that to support this passenger growth trend, the airport will proceed with Phase II of its revitalization program this year.

“We are preparing construction works for a connecting gate between the international and domestic terminals to facilitate transit passengers. We will also expand the corridor area, enhance the check-in counter area, build a connecting pier gate at the international terminal, and upgrade restrooms in both domestic and international terminals,” said Syaugi.

He added that the continuous increase in international arrivals to Bali reflects optimism in the growth of the island’s tourism sector. “In line with this trend, we are committed to continuously improving our services and facilities to ensure passengers at I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport enjoy a more comfortable and memorable travel experience. One of the latest initiatives is the implementation of the All Indonesia system, a synergy between Immigration, Customs, and Quarantine. We have begun its gradual implementation since July 2025. With All Indonesia, the arrival process for international passengers has become faster and more efficient,” he concluded.
