Mangupura, June 25, 2025 – As the school holiday season begins from late June through mid-July 2025, I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport has prepared a series of strategic measures to anticipate the expected surge in passenger traffic, both domestic and international.

The strategies focus on the readiness of three main operational aspects: people, process, and premises (facilities), supported by technology through a Management Operation based on Traffic (MOT) system.

Acting General Manager of I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport, Wahyudi, stated that various preparations have been made to ensure smooth operations during the peak holiday season.

“With the MOT system, we can project passenger volumes several days in advance, including identifying critical points that may cause congestion or long queues. This allows us to design mitigation measures and handling strategies,” said Wahyudi.

He emphasized that proactive and preventive measures play a crucial role in operational smoothness.

“By utilizing this technology, service patterns shift from reactive to predictive and proactive. This ensures that service quality during peak season is maintained—whether at the terminal, in airside flight operations, or landside transport services,” he explained.

During peak travel seasons such as school holidays, the airport will also maximize the Airport Operation Control Center (AOCC). In addition to Angkasa Pura Indonesia teams, the AOCC involves representatives from key stakeholders including AirNav, Immigration, Customs, Quarantine Office, Meteorological Agency (BMKG), and ground handling operators. This integration strengthens inter-agency service coordination and improves communication efficiency.

Other anticipatory measures include ensuring the readiness and reliability of facilities and infrastructure, strengthening supervision at key passenger touchpoints such as check-in, security screening, baggage handling, and boarding processes, as well as monitoring passenger flows and vehicle traffic to optimize movement throughout the airport.

“We project that during the school holiday period from June 23 to July 14, 2025, the airport will serve 1.67 million passengers across 9,884 flights. The highest traffic is expected on July 6, 2025, with an estimated 78,000 passengers and 460 aircraft movements in a single day. Passenger numbers have already shown an upward trend over the past ten days, reaching between 70,000 and 78,000 daily. For the next month, traffic will remain higher than normal daily averages of 61,000 passengers and 378 flights,” Wahyudi noted.

In addition to the school holiday season, passenger and flight traffic at I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport is expected to remain high through August, coinciding with the global summer holiday period. Beyond maintaining operational standards, the airport will also enhance passenger experience through thematic holiday programs.

“We want to bring a festive and cheerful holiday atmosphere to the airport, with special activities and a different ambience from the usual,” he added.

Through strategic operations, cross-agency coordination, and engaging holiday activities, I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport aims to support the growth of Bali’s tourism industry by delivering a smooth, enjoyable, and memorable travel experience.
