Mangupura, March 30, 2025 – Bali’s I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport recorded its highest daily passenger traffic during the 2025/1446 H Eid al-Fitr travel period on Friday (March 28), three days before the holiday. “Based on monitoring activity in the airport area, there was a clear surge in passenger movements. On Friday alone, the airport served 73,550 passengers across 420 flights,” said I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport General Manager, Ahmad Syaugi Shahab.
Of the total, 31,080 passengers were carried on 207 domestic flights, while 42,470 passengers traveled on 213 international flights. Compared with the same period in 2024, passenger traffic on D-3 Eid increased slightly by 3%, from 71,500 passengers. Meanwhile, aircraft movements dropped 3% from 432 in 2024 to 420 this year. “Although the year-on-year growth is not significant, daily passenger and flight numbers during the Eid monitoring post period have steadily increased, with March 28 being the highest so far,” Syaugi added.
He noted that overall traffic trends are gradually improving. “When compared to January and February daily averages this year, the past three days have shown a notable increase,” he explained. In January and February, the airport served an average of 61,759 passengers and 388 aircraft movements per day. On D-3 Eid, passenger numbers rose 19% above that average, while flight movements grew by 10%.
Despite the surge, operations at I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport remained smooth. “All aspects of service ran well, from airport facilities to passenger connectivity to and from the airport. This was possible thanks to strong coordination among all relevant agencies involved in the Eid transport post,” Syaugi said.
The peak also coincided with the Pengerepukan ceremony, part of the Nyepi Day celebrations involving the traditional ogoh-ogoh parade, which required temporary traffic diversions around the airport area. “With the Eid holiday period still ongoing, we will continue to strengthen coordination and supervision to maintain service quality, as we expect more visitors arriving in Bali for vacations,” he added.
Following the 24-hour suspension of airport operations for Nyepi on March 29, I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport resumed normal services today and is expected to handle another 73,000 passengers with 390 flights.
