Mangupura, March 27, 2025 – I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport will temporarily suspend all airport operations during the Balinese Day of Silence (Nyepi) on Saturday, March 29, 2025. The suspension will last for 24 hours, starting from 6:00 a.m. WITA until 6:00 a.m. on Sunday, March 30, 2025.
“During this period, all domestic and international flight services will be halted, except for medical evacuation flights and emergency landings,” said Ahmad Syaugi Shahab, General Manager of I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport.
“To anticipate possible requests for medevac, emergency landings, or technical landings, we will continue to deploy operational, security, and technical personnel on standby at the airport’s operation control center,” he added.
The temporary suspension, Syaugi explained, is a form of respect toward the Hindu community observing Nyepi. The policy is in line with the Governor of Bali’s Circular Letter No. B.16.100.3.4/865/LLJ/DISHUB/2025 regarding the observance of Nyepi (Saka New Year 1947), as well as an official notice to airmen (NOTAM) No. A0131/25 issued by AirNav Indonesia Denpasar branch on January 14, 2025.
“With the NOTAM published well in advance, airlines have already adjusted their schedules to comply with the airport’s closure during Nyepi,” Syaugi confirmed.
According to the flight schedule of 54 airlines operating at Ngurah Rai Airport, a total of 425 scheduled flights coincide with the Nyepi observance—207 domestic and 218 international. “To ensure smooth operations after the closure, approximately 19 aircraft will remain parked at the airport, ready for departures once operations resume,” Syaugi explained.
“In line with one of Nyepi’s values, amati lelungan (abstaining from travel and engaging in self-reflection), we also use this moment to evaluate the services we provide to passengers, while giving our facilities a much-needed pause after operating 24/7 throughout the year,” he concluded.
