Mangupura, May 30, 2025 – As the long weekend begins, I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport is anticipating a surge in passenger traffic. Over the four-day holiday period for the Ascension of Jesus Christ, from May 29 to June 1, 2025, at least 282,110 passengers are expected to pass through the airport, averaging 70,528 passengers per day.
Compared to the average passenger movement in the first quarter of 2025, which was 60,306 passengers per day, this reflects an increase of 17 percent.
On the first day of the long weekend (Thursday, May 29), a total of 68,098 passengers traveled through Ngurah Rai Airport. This included 26,560 domestic passengers 15,169 arrivals and 11,391 departures and 41,538 international passengers, consisting of 21,732 arrivals and 19,806 departures.
“We observed yesterday that passenger numbers have already started to rise. There were 68,000 passenger movements, which is quite significant compared to the daily average. Based on today’s (Friday, May 30) flight schedules, the number is likely to be even higher, potentially reaching 74,000 passengers,” said Acting General Manager of I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport, Wahyudi.
Wahyudi further explained that during long weekends, passenger traffic at Ngurah Rai Airport tends to become busier. “Increases in passenger traffic during long weekends are common, as Bali remains a top holiday destination, especially during extended holidays like this,” he added.
This trend was also evident during the Waisak holiday earlier in May, which saw a significant increase in passenger movements. Between May 9 and May 13, 2025, the airport served a total of 347,819 passengers, with the highest peak recorded on May 9, reaching 72,719 passengers, 37,645 arrivals and 35,074 departures.
“We believe that aside from Bali’s enduring charm, the growing demand for holidays here is also supported by the increasing flight connectivity to major cities in Indonesia and around the world, which makes access and travel much easier for visitors,” Wahyudi explained.
Despite the surge in passengers compared to regular days, airport operations remain smooth. “We have intensified coordination and monitoring to anticipate potential crowding at service points. So far, however, all airport operations are running safely and smoothly,” he concluded.
