Serving 23.9 Million Passengers in 2024, I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport Records 12 Percent Growth

Mangupura, January 22, 2025 — PT Angkasa Pura Indonesia, I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport Branch, recorded strong performance throughout 2024. This is reflected in the total of 23.9 million passengers served during the year. Compared to 2023, when 21.4 million passengers were recorded, the figure represents a 12 percent increase.

General Manager of PT Angkasa Pura Indonesia at I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport, Ahmad Syaugi Shahab, stated that passenger and aircraft traffic in 2024 marked the highest level in the past three years. “Our target for 2024 was to serve 23.6 million passengers, and we surpassed that, reaching 23.9 million. On average, we handled more than 65,000 arriving and departing passengers per day,” said Syaugi.

He further explained, “In terms of composition, international passengers outnumbered domestic ones. Compared to 2023, international passengers saw a surge of 22 percent, reaching 14.1 million, while in 2023 the figure was only 11.5 million. Domestic passenger traffic totaled 9.8 million, slightly lower than the 9.9 million recorded in the previous year.”

Based on annual data, the highest number of international passengers passing through I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport came from Singapore routes, with 2.7 million passengers, followed by Kuala Lumpur with 1.8 million, and Perth with 1 million. On the domestic side, Jakarta (Soekarno-Hatta) remained dominant with 4.8 million passengers, followed by Surabaya with 1.4 million, and Makassar with 522,000.

“The peak months were July and August, each recording 2.2 million passengers. These periods coincide with summer holidays in European and American countries, as well as school holidays in Indonesia,” he added.

Aircraft movements also rose by 4 percent, reaching a total of 142,169 in 2024 compared to 136,508 in 2023. Of these, international flights accounted for 72,583 movements, or 51 percent of the total, while domestic flights made up 69,586 movements.

The busiest international route was Singapore with over 13,000 aircraft movements, followed by Kuala Lumpur with nearly 11,000, and Perth with 7,000. For domestic routes, Jakarta led with 30,000 movements, followed by Surabaya with 8,800, and Lombok with 4,000 movements throughout 2024.

In addition to growth in passenger and aircraft traffic, cargo operations also recorded remarkable growth of 57 percent. In 2023, cargo throughput stood at 64,000 tons, while in 2024 it soared past 100,000 tons, or an average of 275 tons per day, both inbound and outbound. The largest domestic cargo volume was recorded on the Jakarta route with 18,000 tons, while Hong Kong led international cargo traffic with 7,700 tons.

“Throughout 2024, we added 15 new routes, both domestic and international. This shows that Bali remains a highly attractive market in the aviation industry. As the airport operator, our duty is to orchestrate seamless service delivery among all agencies and business partners,” Syaugi explained.

He concluded, “The achievements at I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport are the result of strong collaboration among all stakeholders. Thanks to this solid synergy, we have been able to provide the best service to our passengers. I would like to extend my gratitude for the cooperation and support throughout 2024. Moving forward into 2025, we are targeting 26.4 million passengers, which will require even stronger coordination and communication to deliver an even better travel experience.”
