Mangupura, August 8, 2024 – Bali continues to welcome an increasing number of domestic and international visitors. From January to July 2024, I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport recorded a total of 13,546,968 passengers and 80,890 aircraft movements, marking the highest traffic level of the year so far.

General Manager of I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport, Handy Heryudhitiawan, reported that in July 2024 alone, the airport served 2,287,949 passengers with 12,688 aircraft movements.
“Of this total, 1,342,187 were international passengers and 945,762 were domestic passengers, supported by 6,381 international flights and 6,307 domestic flights. Passenger traffic in July grew by seven percent compared to the same month last year, which recorded 2,143,643 passengers,” Handy explained.

He continued, “Moreover, July became the month with the highest passenger traffic in 2024, exceeding the airport’s monthly average of 1,935,281 passengers by 18 percent. This surge was primarily driven by the school holiday period from June 24 to July 7, 2024, during which the airport served 1,039,713 passengers, both domestic and international.”

Handy further explained that the airport is currently carrying out several service and facility optimization projects.
“With the continued growth in passenger and aircraft movements, we are consistently improving all aspects of our operations to ensure smooth and efficient flight services. Currently, we are conducting optimization work in several key areas across the airport,” he said.

“Among the facility and service improvements underway are upgrades at the Passenger Security Check Point (PSCP) areas for both international and domestic terminals, the construction of a pedestrian bridge at the domestic arrivals area, and the widening of the airport’s vehicle access roads. These projects are our priority to ensure smooth travel and passenger comfort,” Handy added.
He stated that the progress has reached 82 percent and is expected to be completed by the end of September 2024.

Throughout July, I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport served 1,140,598 departing passengers—including 663,556 international and 477,042 domestic passengers—and 1,147,351 arriving passengers, consisting of 678,631 international and 468,720 domestic passengers arriving in Bali.

Among international routes, Singapore remained the busiest in July, serving 256,468 passengers (arrivals and departures combined), followed by Kuala Lumpur with 193,221 passengers, and Melbourne with 101,341 passengers.

For domestic routes, Jakarta (CGK) continued to dominate with 457,528 passengers in total, followed by Surabaya with 128,884 passengers, and Labuan Bajo as the next most popular destination with 62,366 passengers throughout the month.

Based on data from the Ngurah Rai Immigration Office (Class I Special TPI), Australia recorded the highest number of foreign arrivals to Bali in July with 159,567 visitors, followed by China with 49,250 visitors, and India with 45,981 visitors.

“In August, several new international routes are planned to commence operations, including Denpasar–Kota Kinabalu and Denpasar–Phuket, both operated by AirAsia. In addition, we continue to coordinate with several airlines to open new routes to South Korea, including Busan and Jeju Island,” Handy added.

Currently, I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport serves 36 international routes operated by 39 airlines, and 22 domestic routes served by 11 airlines.
“With the continued growth of operations at I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport, we remain committed to providing the highest level of service for all passengers. We hope that our dedication to service excellence will continue to strengthen Bali’s position as a world-class tourism destination,” Handy concluded.
